Who are you?
I am a Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT) and Body-weight Strength Training (BST) Instructor
    in Houston, Texas.

What is your background in physical fitness?
I have over 13 years experience in exercise, personal training, weight-lifting and nutrition.
My interest in physical fitness began when I enlisted into the Army  (1985) later, when a
cadet in the Police Academy (1989) and when I re-enlisted back into state military service
    (2002).

What is your emphasis as a personal trainer?
I do not emphasize or specialize in one area but believe that a person should have a well-
rounded understanding of nutrition and physical fitness.  The two go hand-in-hand.  If your
diet is horrifying (you must be honest with yourself here)  - no amount of working out will
slim you down.   Exercise faddists have reduced complex, systematic exercise routines and
nutrition into the magic pill:  get-thin-in-a-week solutions which do not work, but which fits
into our we-must-have-it-now society.  I teach (mostly preach) to my clients to steer clear of
all diets, fads, weight-loss seminars or weight-loss clinics ... because they are trying to sell
you something, usually a pill or a selection of food (NutriSystem, QuickWeightLoss, Jenny
Craig, etc.)  These exercise systems WORK --- however, once you have completed their
program what happens now?  My approach as a Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT) is to
educate my clients through repetition:   constantly reinforcing correct, positive, nutritional
choices for their entire lives -- not just for someone to get thin for the summer.   My interest
is in my clients lifelong physical fitness.  I want them to exercise well into their senior years.
REMEMBER:   the body you have now (whether morbidly obese, obese or healthy) must be
the type of body you take into retirement.  And when your in your 60's, 70's and 80's will
NutriSystem be around?  Will Jenny Craig still be in business?  With the rate of business
failures today in the airline, banking and mortgage industries, I doubt it.

What certification(s) or certificates do you hold?
I am a Body-weight Strength Training (BST) Instructor and Personal  Fitness Trainer (PFT).
I was certified with the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) in 2007, although I
was training years before.   I am also certified in CPR (American Heart Association) for
Adult, Child, Infant and certified on the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).  I have
also held certifications in the U.S. Army (Basic Combat Medical First Aid, First Aid, CPR)
and in law enforcement (First Responder Certified, First Aid, CPR).

What is Body-weight Strength Training (BST)?
BST (Body-weight Strength Training) is a combination of gymnastics and military fitness
drawn from the Army Rangers and Marine Corps and exercise movements of gymnasts and
"street fitness" built into a workout program.  BST is tougher in scope, shorter in duration
and allows for the body to recover faster from each workout.  BST is not new ... it has been
known for years under terms such as "urbanastics", "urban fitness" and "street fitness".  In
fact, many of the break dancers from the 1980's pioneered many of the different movements
within the street fitness community.  I am hoping to establish a Body-weight Strength
Training (BST) Core Fitness Certification in the next decade (due to the poor level of fitness
and education among personal trainers today).

    Do you carry liability insurance?
Yes.  I am insured through Fitness and Wellness Liability Insurance Company (Zurich Life)
which is headquartered in Solana Beach, California.

    What do you eat?
I eat fresh veggies, especially the leafy greens (spinach, brocolli, cucumbers), all kinds of
fruit (except grapes -- too acidic!) and a LOT of eggs.  Mostly raw!  Never let anyone tell you
to separate the yolk from the white.  BOTH are necessary for receive the full benefit of
protein, potassium, fat and good cholesterol.  My favorite food is Papaya - the #1
superfood.  After reading this FAQ, go out and buy $10 worth of papaya, cut it up in your
kitchen and put it into your protein shakes; better yet, eat it whole, suck out the juice and
eat the roughage.  It provides a superior source of Vitamin C, A, fiber, potassium, folate,
and one serving of papaya provides 14g of excellent carbs.  Another food I like is peanut
butter.  Superb protein / fat ration -- especially the fat -- spread over bagels or blended into
my protein shakes.   I also eat white rice.  Not only does white rice provide the nominal
features of a good, solid carb, white rice is also your doctor.  If your bloated or have an
upset stomach - eat some steamed white rice and it will soak up the acid in your stomach.   I
also splurge on clean water.  Buy a Brita filter and half a dozen filters to last you a year.
Keep the water near you and guzzle no less than a gallon a day.  I also drink coffee ... the
last remaining free (and legal) drug!  Coffee has antioxidants and provides the body with
overall wellness ... and, interestingly, makes a superb pick-me-up for the gym if you dont
want to drink Redline, Red Bull or another high sugar drink.

You talk about POWER EATING?  What is that?

    Do you eat meat?
Yes.  I eat lean chicken once a week, steak once every two weeks and fish once a week.  The
rest of the week I eat salads, sushi, oatmeal and lean pork.

I am interested in talking with you, how do I start?
Go here and you'll find all the information you need.

How much is my first session with you?
It's free.  This gives you the opportunity to determine whether I am the trainer for you.

    Where is your gym located?
My gym is located in the Galleria, between Chimney Rock and Fountainview, one mile from
the Galleria shopping center.  The gym is located on Fairdale Lane.

I saw your Before and After Photos.  I would like to do the same, how long would it take
    me?
(People ask me this question almost daily).  First, loosing weight is based on your diet, not
working out. If you can EAT RIGHT SIX OUT OF SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, and *discipline*
yourself to eat right during that time, the fat will roll off you like water.  Second, you will
need to institute a weight-lifting or resistance training regimen for gaining muscle and
lastly, cardio for cutting fat.  It can take you as little as 3-4 months or as long as one year.
Even if your morbidly obese - IF YOU EAT RIGHT, you can loose as much as 30 lbs in a
month (a pound a day).  Many purists say this is impossible.  It is not.  Your diet determines
your weight; what you  put in  your mouth on a daily basis determines what the scale will
read.  Also recognize that your lifestyle plays a large role in this.   If you are a sedentary
couch potatoe, most likely even if you change the way you eat, your not going to loose
weight as fast.  Consequently, you need to make changes in three (3) areas to make a quick
weight loss:  (1.)  EAT HEALTHY (this is a must); (2.)  TRAIN WITH WEIGHTS 1-3 days a
week and  (3.) get your a** off the couch and outside ... run, walk, sprint.  If you make these
changes you'll be able to be a 90-day wonder as well!
